The Royal Oak, Paley Street, just minutes from junction 8/9 on the M4 in the Berkshire countryside, is a traditional English pub and dining room owned by Nick and Sir Michael Parkinson. We’re already well-known in the area for our traditional warm ambience, friendly welcome and interesting wine list. We are also very proud of the growing reputation of our kitchen.
Our food is created by head chef Dominic Chapman, who brings his philosophy of preparing the best seasonal produce very simply with care and attention – we think of it as “British food done well”. We serve seasonal lunch and dinner menus, which might include roast grouse, line-caught sea bass, Dublin Bay prawns or oxtail and kidney pie. We source our ingredients direct from the coast or farms around Britain, and having a good relationship with our suppliers is essential to our philosophy, and maintaining our high standards.
Nick and general manager, Gherras Mo, have taken care to retain the ‘pub’ atmosphere of The Royal Oak, so those coming for a drink will find a warm welcome, and are invited to relax in one of the comfortable chairs and sofas and enjoy a pint, or a glass of wine from our extensive list. There’s a small selection of bar snacks to enjoy with a drink, and a large beer garden for al fresco drinking and dining in warmer weather.
In January 2008 we were awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and then in September we were awarded the 2009 AA Best Restaurant for England and Dominic was awarded “Best Pub Chef” in the Good Food Guide.
