Our Client - Auckland Airport

Auckland Airport handles over 13.4 million passengers a year (6 million domestic and 7.4 million international) and is a major driver of the economy. As Australasia’s second busiest international airport, just after Sydney Airport, over 70 per cent of visitors enter or leave New Zealand via Auckland Airport.

As New Zealand's major transport hub, Auckland Airport is continually developing the capacity and services to ensure it will sustainably cope with an anticipated 24 million passengers a year by 2025, reflecting New Zealand’s growing popularity as one of the world’s leading tourism destinations.

   The Requirement for Change

The overall market for parking at the Airport has grown in recent years, and, as the Airport is committed to providing its customers and travellers with the best airport experience possible, improvements and initiatives to meet that commitment are ongoing. One initiative was to increase the range of parking products available to improve consumer choice and accessibility of these via the airports own web site.

At the same time, parking at the airport was becoming increasingly competitive, with a significant growth in the number and size of off-airport parking operators close to the airport perimeter. These operators often promote low cost parking and Auckland was keen to ensure the Airport’s own parking product range was being promoted and easily accessible via it's online channel.

With a wide range of parking facilities spread across the International and Domestic terminals and the new Park and Ride facility; including a multi level car park and covered and uncovered bays, the demand for space differed on different days, giving the airport plenty of scope for special offers and initiatives.

The Airport aimed to make parking at the terminal attractive and competitive in the local market, and provide the best possible options for its price conscious travellers through its Park and Ride facility which opened in April 2009.

The only way to achieve all of this was through the introduction of online booking for the car parks.
